　新潟絵屋は2000年6月16日に「見る人の見る人による見る人のための企画展空間」として誕生した。それは「作る人の発表の場」という面から見られることの多かった「展覧会」を「見る人」というもう一つの視点からとらえ直そうとする試みだった。
　展覧会は「見る人」（企画者）と「作る人」の協働で実現する。25年という歳月の中で、私たちもたくさんの作る人と交流した。また作る人、作られたものたちから、活動のエネルギーをもらってきた。ことに創作の劇的ないまを共に体験できたことは、新潟絵屋が与えてくれたかけがえない賜物だった。
　アンティエ・グメルスと蓮池ももの「変容」は今も忘れられない。
　アンティエの新潟絵屋の初個展は2001年。少しシニカルで不思議な生き物たちの賑やかな「パレード」の数年後に、思いがけない「光の絵」が現れようと誰が想像できただろう。蓮池は「島」「文様」、湿地のイメージへと推移していく素描の連作など、その都度新しい、魅力ある結晶体を産み落としてきた。
　ドイツに居を移し、ここ数年制作に力を十分に注げずにいたアンティエは、新潟絵屋の「おめでたい」月のために「太陽の日記」シリーズを描いた。旧作を加えて展示する。蓮池の近作には「ラジオ」が登場。遠い場所を近づける小箱は、自らの深みをめぐる道を歩いてきた画家の、心的世界の広がりを暗示する。
　「ひとりぼっちは絵描きになる」は友川かずきの歌だが、たくさんの見る、作る、ひとりぼっちがつながり、心を通わせてきた場所が新潟絵屋だった。（企画者：大倉宏）

Niigata Eya was established on June 16, 2000 as “an exhibition space of the viewers, for the viewers, by the viewers.” It was an attempt to reconsider the “exhibition,” which has often been viewed from the perspective of “a place for the creator to present their work,” to another perspective of “the viewer.“ Over the past 25 years, we have interacted with many creators, and have received energy for our activities from them and their creations. In particular, the opportunity to experience together the dramatic changes in the creative process was an invaluable gift given to me by Niigata Eya.
The “transformation” of Antje Gummels and Momo Hasuiike is still unforgettable.
Antje’s first solo exhibition at Niigata Eya was in 2001. Who could have imagined that a few years after the lively “parade” of slightly cynical and mysterious creatures, an unexpected “Journey of Light” would appear? Hasuike has painted new and fascinating crystalline (works) each time, such as “Islands,” “Patterns,” and a series of drawings that transition into images of wetlands.
Having moved to Germany and unable to fully devote herself to creation for the past few years, Antje painted the “Sun Diary” series for Niigata Eya’s “Congratulations” month. Her older works will be added to the exhibition.
Hasuike’s recent works have a “Radio” motif. The small box that brings a distant place closer suggests the expansion of the painter’s mental world, in which she has walked the path of her own depths.
“Hitoribotti wa Ekaki ni Naru“ (”Loneliness becomes a painter”) is a song by Kazuki Tomokawa, and Niigata Eya is a place where many people who see, create, and are alone have connected and communicated with each other. (Exhibition Planner: Hiroshi Okura)

Antje Gummels（アンティエ・グメルス）
1962年旧西ドイツ・レーゲンスブルグ生まれ。78年イタリア・サンレモへ移住。87年に来日し新潟県巻町（現新潟市西蒲区）に住む。92年麻布工芸美術館（東京）、92・94年創庫美術館（新潟）、96年北方文化博物館（新潟）、98年ストライプハウス美術館（東京）、2001・05・07・09・11・14・17年新潟絵屋、07年砂丘館（新潟）、05年アートフロントギャラリー（東京）、画廊Full Moon（新潟）、07年ギャラリーARKA（ウラジオストック）、 07・09・17年ギャラリー128（ニューヨーク）、08年中之沢美術館（群馬）、ギャラリーアートコンポジション（東京）、10年游文舎（新潟）、11年ギャラリーゆうむ（新潟）、17年ギャラリーみつけ（新潟）で個展。09年大地の芸術祭、11～16年観○光ART EXPO（京都、鎌倉）、会津漆の芸術祭に出品。ドイツ在住。

Antje Gummels
Born 1962 in Regensburg, former West Germany, moved to Sanremo, Italy in 1978, came to Japan in 1987 and lived in Makimachi, Niigata (current Nishikanku, Niigata City). She held solo exhibition the following: at Azabu Crafts Museum (Tokyo) in 1992; Loft Museum of Contemporary Art (Niigata) in 1992 and 1994; Northern Culture Museum (Niigata) in 1996; Striped House Gallery (Tokyo) in 1998; Niigata Eya in 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2017; Sakyukan (Niigata) in 2007; Art Front Gallery (Tokyo) in 2005; Gallery Full Moon (Niigata) in 2005; Gallery ARKA (Vladivostok) in 2007; Gallery 128 (New York) in 2007,2009,2017; Nakanosawa Museum (Gunma) in 2008; Gallery Art Composition (Tokyo) in 2008; Youbunsya (Niigata) in 2010; Gallery Yuumu (Niigata) in 2011; Gallery Mitsuke in 2017. Exhibited at Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale in 2009, Kanhikari ART EXPO (Kyoto, Kamakura) in 2011-16, and Aizu Urushi Art Festival (Fukushima). She lives in Germany.
