1991年のいわきでの屋外グループ展の会場を遠望した写真が、モノから光へ、移行するきっかけになったという吉田重信。東日本大震災から20年以上前のことだ。それは彼が身を置こうとした「現代美術」の「死」を、｢別な世界｣から先取りして見た体験だったのかもしれない。海が光っていた。震災を反映させた作品も発表した吉田の新作写真群は「ヒカリノミチ」を逆向きにたどり、見えてきた光景のようだ。（企画者：大倉 宏）

A photograph taken from a distance of the outdoor group exhibition venue in Iwaki in 1991 became the catalyst for Shigenobu Yoshida’s transition from a focus on objects to light. This was more than 20 years before the Great East Japan Earthquake. Perhaps it was an experience of anticipating the “death” of “contemporary art,” which he sought to engage with, from a “different world.” The sea was glittering. Yoshida’s new series of photographs, which also reflect the earthquake, seems to trace his previous series “Passage of Light” in reverse, and reveal the scenes that came into view. 吉田重信（よしだ しげのぶ）
1980年代後半から活動を始める。1991年いわき市立美術館で自然光の作品｢Infinite Light｣を発表後、水戸芸術館・宇都宮美術館・広島現代美術館・川村記念美術館・目黒区美術館・岩手県立美術館・東京都写真美術館・茨城天心記念美術館・喜多方市美術館・Hayward Gallery・IKON Gallery・Grundy art Gallery Blakpool(イギリス)、Museum on the SEAM(イスラエル)等にて作品を発表。1995年から自然光を使った虹のワ－クショップ｢虹ヲアツメル・虹ノカンサツ｣を国内外で開催。2010年、子供の靴800足を使い、世界各地の紛争や社会的問題をテ－マにした「心ノ虹」を楓ギャラリ－(大阪)で展示。2011年3月11日に起きた東日本大震災直後の5月には、立体ギャラリ－射手座(京都)にて、犠牲者への祈りの菊1000本を使った作品「臨在の海」を発表する。2015年、戦後70年を迎える旧日本銀行広島支店を会場に開催された「存在と記憶Hiroshima 2016」(広島)や「山形ビエンナーレ2022」に参加。枚方市民ギャラリ－(枚方市平和の日記念事業企画)にて個展「光の鳥」(大阪 2015)その他、個展及びグル－プ展を多数開催している。https://shigenobu-yoshida.com/
Shigenobu Yoshida
Yoshida began his career in the late 1980s. After presenting his natural light work “Infinite Light” at the Iwaki City Art Museum in 1991, he exhibited his works at the Art Tower Mito, Utsunomiya Museum of Art, Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art, Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art, Meguro Museum of Art, Iwate Prefectural Museum of Art, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Ibaraki Tenshin Memorial Museum of Art, Kitakata Museum of Art, Hayward Gallery, IKON Gallery, Grundy Art Gallery Blackpool (UK), Museum on the SEAM (Israel), among others. Since 1995, he has held workshops using natural light titled “Niji wo Atsumeru・Niji no kansatsu” both domestically and internationally. In 2010, he exhibited “Rainbow of the Soul,” a work using 800 pairs of children’s shoes, at Kaede Gallery (Osaka), themed on conflicts and social issues around the world. In May 2011, shortly after the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, he presented “The Ocean of Presence,” a work using 1,000 chrysanthemums as prayers for the victims, at CUBIC gallery ITEZA (Kyoto). In 2015, he participated in “Sonzai to Kioku Hiroshima 2016” held at the former Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the “Yamagata Biennale 2022.” He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the solo exhibition “The Birds of Light” (Osaka, 2015) at the Hirakata Citizens’ Gallery (Hirakata City Peace Day Commemorative Project).
